The Golden Galleon

The Golden Gallooon Salooon. Many a time and oft upon a Friday at nooon did raw kneed elementary school urchins, including the author, patronize this establishment. This photograph has been made after the "latest" changes to the place. Up to about 1960, there was no separation from the kitchen at the back.

(The Golden Galleon was in Oak Bay Village. Those of you who have not been back to Oak Bay Village since high school years, don't go back; keep the village in your mind as it was in 1963 and don't allow the memory to be erased by seeing today's tinsel. Just like smelly old Bowker Creek, it has been eviscerated of 1960 essence and has been gentrified. It is all yupped up and cute; it is generic and polished and vacuous.)

Cribbed, with thanks, from the site of the alumni of 1960. The photograph is credited there to the B.C. Archives.
